Farmers face a severe disconnect with the commodities market and often end up selling their produce for loss. Although the Govt of India has attempted to facilitate this problem through online portals that display the Minimum Support Price (MSP), most farmers have no means of accessing this information.

What is Rythu’s solution?

A voice chatbot for farmers to participate in the commodities marketplace

Rythu utilizes an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system, powered by Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to fetch-real time market information and deliver it to any mobile device.

How it Works?

1. Farmer gives a missed call to a toll-free number.

2. IVR greets farmer in native language and asks for "Market Yard Name", "Product / Produce Name" and "Variety or Grade".

3. Farmer responds in native language with answers to these questions.

4. Using NLP / AI the system processes the voice response and fetches the information from government sites that provide real time commodity rates at different market yards.

5. The fetched information is delivered to farmer in native language.

Suraj is a 16-year-old high school senior from the Bay Area. After watching his struggling grandfather, a farmer himself, he decided to combine his technological skills with previous entrepreneurship knowledge to create Rythu. Suraj is a mentor at his DECA chapter and a long-standing member of his debate team. He is also an executive director in Nanoseed, a social, non-profit organization dedicated to helping alleviate poverty in rural China. In his free time, Suraj enjoys running track and field as well as spending time with his family.

Santosh is a technology evangelist, passionate product developer and physics Lover. Has built several B2C and B2B applications using AI/NLP technologies serving hundreds of thousands of requests a day, collecting millions of consumer database. Leading a team to build Digital Self Serving chatbots powered by ML/NLP, which includes automated integrations with Salesforce, Freshdesk, SAP, etc on channels like Facebook Messenger, Slack, Twilio, Intercom, etc.

FarmerConnect is an agricultural extension service provider that aims to ease the daily lives of farmers. Rythu hopes to merge with FarmerConnect and adopt its functionalities in time to come.
